Some Recent and Current Activities at the Church

On April 29, 2001 Community had a very special service. We were celebrating the completion of many projects that made our church a more beautiful and functional place to worship. The pictures and text below describe some of the joy which was ours.

Sink
Kitchen Faithful

The old kitchen was dimly lit, hard to impossible to keep clean, and really inadequate for all the potlucks and programs for Community, IEPF, and other groups using the church. It was time to say goodbye to the old and up with the new!
Kitchen Destruction

That meant everything had to come out. It was sad seeing those old cabinets and sink which had served us so well over the years come out, but there was joy in the realization that they would be replaced with new, shiny cupboards and sink, and we would get a pass-through window that would make serving a lot easier.
Kitchen Reborn

It took longer than we expected, but as things began to come together, we were all excited about the possibilities. We got so enthused we didn't even wait for the flooring to get in before trying it out.
Kitchen Finished

At last it was finished. Everyone had to check out all the expanded storage space, slick pass-through window, and actually cleanable flooring and sink. What is really going on here, is a bunch of people trying to find where things had been put.

There is an entire slideshow of the process to be found by clicking here.
Children

That day was the second Sunday of Easter and the scripture lesson dealt with Jesus feeding the disciples on the shore of the See of Tiberias. Pastor Sylvia explained all that to the children and used the kitchen and renovation of the doors to illustrate the bible story.
Celebration of the Doors

The opening of a door is always a good metaphor, but at Community for years, the doors wouldn't open between the sanctuary and the social hall. Larry took them down, sanded them off, put a new track up, added new hardware, and rehung them. Much to our delight, they not only opened but closed when that is appropriate. Bob and Pat rushed in on Saturday and made sure they were all beautifully painted so we could enjoy them.

At the end of the service, the congregation passed through the doors and formed a circle to give thanks that all the projects had come wonderfully to completion. The service ended in the social hall and everyone got to see how well the kitchen worked out for feeding a group.
Community Golf Club

Of course, that wasn't the end of the day. For over a year, a bunch of members have been going out once or twice a week to find fellowship on the golf course. That morning we formalized the group as the 'Community Golf Club." Now, we need to talk some of our female members into playing with us. You don't have to be good, just persistent.

Left to right are Larry, Pat, Chechi, Dave, and Bob. It made a better picture, so I rotated it through a vertical axis.
S.H.A.R.E

SHARE (Self Help and Resource Exchange) , a vital outreach of our congregation, is an organization that helps people obtain nutritious food at a cost of at least half that at supermarket prices. Check the link on the menu for more information and pictures.

Santa visits the children

Community and Inland Empire Presbyterian Fellowship had a combined Christmas celebration in 1999. Check it out in the ARCHIVES section.
Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity has now moved its local offices to Community, where it has refurbished the S.H.A.R.E. office and will use the church for its activities. Community has been involved with Habitat for many years and was pleased to welcome them to our building with a worship service, potluck luncheon, and dedication ceremony on January 9, 2000.
Visit to a Mission

On Saturday, October 23rd, five members of our church traveled to Tijuana for a tour of some locations in the Presbytery Border Ministry. We also visited Casa de Esperaanza, an orphanage supported by the mission's efforts. For more information on that visit the missions link in the menu to the left.
Church Secretary

Tricia Culvershouse is Community's secretary. She prepares the bulletin for each each Sunday and also produces the monthly Community newsletter called the "Community Herald. Of course there are a myriad of other tasks she does that fall under the heading of "secretarial."

Our Choir

The Community Voices provide music for worship services the first Sunday of every month and also serenade at Beverly Manor Convalescent Home on the last Sunday of every month. All are invited to participate. It is lots of fun singing the old and new hymns and spirituals.
Pastor and a Deacon

Pastor Sylvia and Donna Cadwallader should be socializing after the service, but are probably discussing plans for some new activity.
Church Fiesta 2000

The congregation headed for Sylvan Park for this years annual picnic. Click on the link Fiesta 2000 for more pictures.

Summer Bible School

Summer Bible School 2000 was held in June this year. An enthusiastic group up to the 6th grade attended. See the Bible School 2000 link for more pictures.
